Our Common Garden

Our Common Garden is an international performance project that brings together young artists from Germany, Italy and Latvia and develops new forms of encounter between art, audience and society.
The purpose of the project is to develop and test new transnational formats in the performing arts, based on co-creation, intercultural exchange and active audience participation. Inspired by Gilles Clément’s vision of the garden as a political space of migration, diversity, sharing and constant transformation, the project understands Europe as a shared garden that must be collectively cared for and reimagined.
Through a two-year process of workshops, artistic research and local engagement, the project will involve young performers, cultural professionals, local participants and museum audiences in the creation of a permanent, simultaneous and interactive performance taking place in Riga, Bonn and Venice. By connecting three different cities and communities through both physical and digital tools, Our Common Garde aims to foster shared responsibility, dialogue and mutual learning across borders.
The project also seeks to create a sustainable prototype for new artistic formats within the cultural and creative sectors: formats that combine performance, museum spaces, participatory practices and international cooperation. Its democratic and experimental approach will strengthen the partners’ capacity for future collaboration and contribute to new models of encounter, exchange and collective creation in Europe.

PERFORMANCE
The three-week international performance will connect young and experienced artists and visitors at three different museum locations in Venice, Riga and Bonn. Within the teams, new combinations are formed on-site each week, with two artists from one museum (city, country) traveling to another. Through digital tools and formats, we enable a cross-border dialogue and process between the artists among themselves and between the artists and the visitors. In addition to traditional audiences or visitors to theatres and museums, we address people of all ages and social backgrounds who are invited to exchange and change perspectives. To do this, we will actively involve representatives from different local communities as scouts in the project so that they participate in the creative process and create connections with their communities.
